Dr. Dmitri Katz
PhD Human Computer Interaction

Digital Health, User-Centered Design, HCI/UI/UX, Researcher, and Project and Workshop Design and Facilitation

My work occurs at the intersection of health, technology, and human-centered design. Essential to my approach are empathy, critical analysis, collaborative problem solving, and iterative design. Among my primary research interests include diabetes self-management, design for active aging, human-centered Machine Learning, and more broadly the design of socio-technical systems that promote humanistic values such as autonomy and justice. Currently, I’m engaged in diverse projects. These range from communication technology for non-verbal children with Cerebral Palsy, a graduate-level textbook on Digital Humanism, patient journey software for hip and knee surgery, to a social startup enhancing activity in care homes. Past collaborations include The Open University, University of Limerick, University of Bristol, and Roche Diabetes Care. I’ve advised digital health startups across Germany and the UK. Notable achievements include a Google Scholarship, EU Marie-Curie Fellowship, and an honorable mention at CHI, a premier human-computer interaction conference.
